Monmouth, N.J. 21, Bryant 12

Monmouth (N.J.) scored three times in the first quarter and held on to defeat Bryant 21-12 on Saturday.

The Hawks (2-4, 2-1 Northeast Conference) scored on a safety 3:06 into the game, then added a 26-yard field goal by Eric Spillane midway through the quarter. On Bryant's next possession, the Bulldogs fumbled and Monmouth's Jose Gumbs recovered on the Bryant 40. L.J. Caprio scored on a 3-yard run with 2:22 to go.

In the second quarter, Spillane missed a 48-yard attempt, then quarterback Kyle Frazier scored on a 34-yard run, capping a two-play, 52-yard drive, for 18-0.

The Bulldogs (4-3, 1-2) got on the scoreboard with Mike Croce's 3-yard run with 2:29 left in the half, but the kick was blocked.

Spillane added a 33-yard field goal in the fourth quarter as Monmouth took 5:52 off the clock. Only 30 seconds remained when Croce hit Jordan Harris with a 25-yard TD pass.
