Mississippi State Football Forecast: Shipping Up to Boston

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Mississippi State football team will head up to Boston for the unique opportunity to play in Gillette Stadium. With that in mind, Mother Nature is going to have a pretty big factor into how they play on foreign turf.

But as they fly over to Boston, the Mississippi State football squad will experience a pretty massive cold front. The forecast will be slightly easier than usual for this situation, because fronts are predictable. Foxborough, Massachusetts is pretty good about having normalized temperatures throughout the day. That means the temperature variations won’t be that much from morning to midday.

But the differences between Massachusetts and Starkville in late September are fairly pronounced. The simple matter of latitude is enough to change the weather patterns significantly. But, I think this may play into Mississippi State’s strengths. Mid-strength winds will impact the passing game, albeit slightly.

Numbers you want to know

Parking outside Gillette Stadium (11:30 AM EDT): 58 °F, partly cloudy, winds from the N around 5 MPH

Gates open for Mississippi State football (1:30 PM EDT): 60 °F, partly cloudy, winds from the NW at 5-10 MPH

Kickoff on American Sports Network (3:30 PM EDT): 63 °F, mostly sunny, winds from the NW at 5-10 MPH

Halftime and starting to pull the starters (5:00 PM EDT): 63 °F, mostly sunny, winds from the NNW at 5-10 MPH

Wrapping Foxborough in Maroon and White (7:00 PM EDT): 58 °F, mostly clear, winds from the NNW around 5 MPH

As always, I’ll keep the forecast updated on Twitter. But I don’t see the chance for rain or delays coming anywhere close to Gillette Stadium. With that in mind, it should be a good day for Mississippi State fans as we get to go into Gillette Stadium. Even if it is half empty, the chance for these players to get to play in an NFL stadium is amazing.
