Michigan State Recruiting: Analyst hinting at recruit flipping to MSU?

Michigan State recruiting might get some good news as a football analyst hinted at a potential ‘buyer’s remorse’ for a former top target.

There have been players to come along in which Michigan State recruiting seems to have locked up but at the last second something happens and they commit elsewhere. Well, that may be the case with a former top Spartan target.

Scout.com recruiting analyst Dave Berk, who mostly covers the Ohio area, sent out a cryptic tweet on Thursday night that people are still debating about.

Here’s what he had to say about the Spartans:

What could it possibly mean? Mark Dantonio has done a solid job of keeping the prospects who he had committed to his 2017 class even after a 3-9 season despite people knocking him for having a “lackluster” cycle of recruiting.

There were some guys who committed elsewhere who seemed to be high on the Spartans before. In recent weeks it was Ambry Thomas and KJ Hamler, but those two look to be very solid to their respective programs.

So who could Berk be referring to? A name that comes to mind is Amir Riep. While this is all speculation and it may not even be referring to the four-star cornerback, it does seem like it has something to do with an Ohio prospect.

Riep was high on MSU and some thought he was close to a lock, at one point. Although the Buckeyes were putting in the work to land him as well, Michigan State held a special spot for him but he ultimately chose Ohio State.

It was a bit surprising for those who followed his back-and-forth recruitment and he may be feeling “buyer’s remorse” because he would have been a sure competitor for early playing time at Michigan State while the Buckeyes might just add five-star corner Darnay Holmes in the next few weeks, making Riep the fourth corner in the class and the third-highest rated.

Whatever this tweet is referring to, keep an eye out for potential flips in the coming weeks as the recruiting process for committed players isn’t over yet, either.
