Michigan State OT Jack Conklin announces plans for next year
Michigan State left tackle Jack Conklin has decided 38 career starts on the Spartans line is enough.
The school announced Wednesday Conklin will skip his senior season in East Lansing and enter the NFL draft.
In a statement from the school, Conklin called the decision very difficult.
"Ultimately, my family and I felt it was time to take the next step and start training for the NFL," he said. "I’m excited about it."
Conklin was a first-team All-American in 2015 when the Spartans won their second Big Ten championship in his three years.
Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio called the 6-foot-6, 325-pound Conklin a gifted athlete and an ideal left tackle prospect at the next level.
“The pre-draft numbers project Jack as a probable first-round selection, and there’s no doubt that he’ll be an outstanding tackle at the next level," Dantonio said via the school. "He’s well prepared to transition into the next chapter of his life, and we wish him nothing but the best as he chases his dream of playing in the NFL. He’s not only been a major contributor over the last three seasons, but he’s also been a tremendous ambassador for our football program.”
Conklin added he would miss "everything about" MSU.
"I’ve loved it," the Plainwell, Mich., native said. "Coach 'D' was great – he gave me a chance to play Division I football when no one else believed in me. For him to give me that chance and to now be in this position is unbelievable."
