Michigan State Football: Spartans showing interest in Alabama QB transfer?
Is Michigan State football showing interest in former five-star QB recruit and Alabama-transfer Blake Barnett?
Quarterback play has been a major downfall for Michigan State football through six weeks this season and that may have led the coaching staff to look elsewhere for help. That elsewhere may be former five-star recruit and Alabama transfer Blake Barnett.

Despite recruiting a number of four-star gunslingers, a recent report by 247Sports claims that Michigan State has reached out to Barnett.
Is this report just saying that the Spartans are a team showing interest because of recent Twitter follows or is there basis behind the claim? Interestingly enough, MSU recruiting coordinator Curtis Blackwell followed Barnett after he announced he would be transferring.
However, don’t expect much to come from this ‘reaching out’ that the Spartans have reportedly done.
Michigan State has its three quarterbacks of the future. First, Brian Lewerke has been compared to Kirk Cousins by Mark Dantonio. Second, Messiah deWeaver is believed to be the most talented of all the QBs. Lastly, 2017 pledge Rocky Lombardi is more than capable of leading an offense.
Would you expect the Spartans to throw a new quarterback into the fold and have him sit out an entire season while Lewerke or deWeaver won the starting job? That would mean the staff would want Barnett to compete for the starting job after a Spartan QB had already started for a year.
Safe to say, this won’t be happening despite some fans clamoring for the transfer. It just doesn’t make any logical sense.
