Michigan State Football: Just give Donnie Corley the dang ball
Donnie Corley was hyped during the offseason and even during his recruitment and there is something special about the Michigan State football star.
You’ve heard the descriptions: playmaker, game-changer and just dominant. All of these words go on to describe one of the most talented players that played sparingly for Michigan State football last Friday against the Furman Paladins.

Maybe it was due to his lack of understanding the nuances of the offense or maybe there were other receivers ahead of him on the depth chart. It’s possible that the coaching staff wants to bring him along. No matter the reasoning, Donnie Corley is a wide receiver who simply must play early and often.
Corley’s stat line of two receptions for 17 yards hardly describes the “playmaker” that Mark Dantonio and his fellow teammates know him to be. In fact, fans might even yawn at his performance during the game. Yet there was one play that reviewed the explosiveness of Donnie Corley to the college football world.

It was a 2nd-and-8 from inside of the MSU 30-yard line and Donnie Corley took a bubble screen from Tyler O’Connor and jetted up the field for eleven yards. He was trucking, but he it appeared as if he barely broke a sweat. For the rest of the game Corley was kept on the shelf and frustrated MSU fans desperately wanted to see a spark as the game lagged on.
Yes, it was one play and is most definitely too little to get too excited about this early in the season let alone this early for Corley’s career. However, the excitement surrounding him is no longer just hype. He is the playmaker that Dantonio described him to be. Now the real question is, when will MSU give this game-changer the ball?
Therefore, borrowing the title from Keyshawn Johnson’s book, Just Give Me the Damn Ball, the Spartans must give Corley the damn pigskin.
