The Spartans had been waiting for the news after Davis finished his last class just a few short weeks ago and this is what they were hoping for.
Huge #MichiganState & B1G: Ed Davis has been cleared for his sixth season. He's an All-American caliber LB. Missed 2015 w torn ACL.

Fortunately for MSU, Davis is one of the best pass-rushing linebackers in the Big Ten. He was slated to start in 2015 and be an All-Big Ten performer at outside linebacker, but he tore his ACL before the season began.
Having to sit out the entire season, everyone just assumed that his career for MSU was over, but he decided to apply for a sixth year. It was surprising to see the time pass without hearing anything back from the NCAA, but after week one, Davis has been granted his sixth season.
Michigan State might be 1-0 right now, but getting Davis back before the biggest non-conference game of the year is huge. Heck, this is the biggest road game of the season and Davis being able to take the field with that experience and pass-rushing ability will make Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer more uncomfortable in the pocket.
Davis finished the 2014 season with 58 total tackles, 12.5 for loss and 7.5 sacks. He will be a welcomed addition to a talented Mark Dantonio defense.
