Michigan Football: Jordan Lewis Return is Much Needed Wolverines
The Michigan football team has been missing Jourdan Lewis, but he could return this week, just in time for the start of Big Ten play.
Although his absence didn’t cost the Michigan football team anything in the win-loss column, Jourdan Lewis has been missed.
The Wolverines gave up a number of big plays last week to Colorado and with Penn State coming to town, Michigan needs Lewis back in short order.
The Nittany Lions may not have the most explosive offense, but it’s nothing to scoff at. New starting quarterback Trace McSorley is averaging 276 yards per game through the air and is more than good enough to make Michigan pay for poor coverage.
Thankfully, according to reports, Lewis is practicing and looked good Tuesday according to fellow corner Channing Stribling.
“It’s the same old JD, he’s never going to lose his swagger, he’s still the same guy,” Stribling said to MLive Tuesday. “He was talking trash during the game the other day when he wasn’t even playing.
“That’s just him.”
Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh also said he is hopeful Lewis will able to finally play Saturday at the Big House.
Certainly, Michigan should be able to win without him. The Wolverines registered 23 QB knockdowns against Colorado, so that will help whoever is playing corner Saturday.
Yet, with Wisconsin coming to Ann Arbor Sept. 24, it would be ideal to get the Lewis on the field against the Nittany Lions. That way the All-American can knock off of any rust and be full go for the Badgers.
So far, the Michigan defense has been good, but with Lewis at full strength, it has a chance to possibly, be the nation’s best.
Hopefully we will see in the field Saturday, not just the sideline.
