Mercer beats Reinhardt 40-37

Josh Shutter kicked a 31-yard field goal in the game's final seconds to give Mercer a 40-37 win over Reinhardt in a shootout Saturday night.

The Bears' John Russ set up the game-winning kick with a 46-yard pass to Jordan Marshall and a 2-yard run to put Mercer within field-goal range. Shutter nailed it to give Mercer the win with seven seconds left.

Scoring was back and forth, with Reinhardt amassing 406 total yards compared with Mercer's 410.

This was the debut game for Reinhardt and the first time in 72 years that Mercer has fielded a team.
