McElwain, Gators pick up Spurrier on their way to ESPN event
New Florida coach Jim McElwain continued a nice tradition by picking up former Gators and current South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier on the way to ESPN's studios for the networks SEC "Car Wash" event Tuesday.
ESPN reported that Florida officials had no issue with Spurrier flying on the team plane, even if he is no longer affiliated with the university.

"They asked, 'Was there any problem doing this?' and I said, 'Hell, I drive by the guy's statue every day," McElwain told ESPN. "He won the Heisman Trophy and a national championship at Florida. You know what, we'll do anything for him."
Spurrier, still a fan favorite in Gainesville, added that he still has a love for Florida, and he believes that love is (more or less) reciprocated.
"I've got a good working relationship with most Gators," Spurrier said on ESPN. "I pull for them in all games but one, and they sort of pull for us in all games but one."
