Mayfield is the starter
Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops made it official on Thursday, picking Baker Mayfield as the starting quarterback.
Trevor Knight had started the past two openers for the Sooners.
Mayfield, a former walk-on at Texas Tech who became a starter, also walked on at Oklahoma before last season. He sat out all of 2014.
"It's been a very tight battle among those three guys," Stoops said in a news release. "Baker, Trevor (Knight) and Cody (Thomas) have all made substantial progress and I feel we can win with any of them."
Knight is 11-5 in his career as a starter. Thomas is 2-0.
Stoops announced the news in a press release and the school Tweeted it out. Mayfield also posted a picture to his Instagram.
