'Mastermind' Matt Lubick is auditioning for Oregon's offensive coordinator position
Oregon wide receivers coach Matt Lubick is the favorite to become Oregon's offensive coordinator in the wake of Scott Frost's departure to UCF. Lubick and head coach Mark Helfrich will be in control of Oregon's offensive game plan against TCU in the Alamo Bowl.
Lubick has downplayed the the offensive coordinator's role, saying "the word 'coordinator' is just a fancy title that somebody has." However, Lubick is also thankful for the support.
"I feel like I have a ton of support," said Lubick, per The Oregonian. "It seems like my name is being brought up in a lot of different things and media this and that, but nothing much has changed. We're a team here and our coaches all work together when we prepare a game plan."
Despite the lack of interest in the coordinator title, Lubick seems thrilled to be part of the Oregon program.
"I want to do what's best for the football team, whatever that is," he said. "If that means being the offensive coordinator then I'm going to embrace it, attack it and do the best I can. ... I can't emphasize this enough, I'm just happy to be here. I'm in a great place with a bunch of great people where I look for ward to going to work every day."
Oregon's offensive players have voiced strong support for him to move into the offensive coordinator role. Sophomore Devon Allen has even gone as far as to call Lubick a "mastermind."
Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. also seems to think that Lubick is ready to be Oregon's new OC.
