Maryland lands former Michigan commit

Maryland is the new college destination for one of Michigan's many recent decommitments.

Antwaine Richardson, a three-star cornerback from Delray Beach (Fla.) Atlantic, told Scout.com why he chose to be a Terrapin:

"I like the environment and uniforms," Richardson said. "It was snowing and that was my first time seeing it as well. I really didn't get to see everything because of the snow. "They also told me they need defensive backs. They're looking for me to come in and make a statement."

Richardson also said he liked the coaching staff, which does not come as a great surprise given Richardson's history.

He verbally committed to Michigan last summer during head coach Jim Harbaugh's summer satellite camp tour, and one of Harbaugh's assistants -- defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin -- is now head coach of the Terps.

Richardson is the 15th member of Maryland's class and the sixth to join in the past seven days.

Also committing recently have been four other players from the state of Florida -- Kissimmee Osceola running back Laderrien Wilson, Fort Lauderdale Dillard defensive end Aaron Thompson and Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons defensive backs Elijah and Elisha Daniels.

Durkin was the defensive coordinator at Florida prior to his one season with Harbaugh in Ann Arbor.

The other player to join the class recently was Auburn, Ala., tight end Noah Barnes.
