Maryland adds pair of Ohio linemen to recruiting class
A pair of Ohio prep linemen verbally committed to Maryland less than one week after head coach Randy Edsall got a pledge from a player many Terrapin fans hope will prove to be a program changer.
Quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr. of Potomac (Md.) The Bullis School talked when he committed about staying home and convincing other big-time prospects in Maryland to do the same, but he his first two hits came farther away.
Was it a coincidence Jeffery Pooler and Terek Zingale pulled the trigger within a few days of Haskins jumping on board? Probably not.
"When Dwayne committed to Maryland, that was an eye-opener," Zingale told TerrapinTimes.com. "In my eyes, he was the No. 2 quarterback in the country, so why wouldn't you want to go where he's going? And what he was saying about the school, man, I couldn't turn that down.
"He was telling me about he academics there, which is a huge thing for me, and how there are so many connections right by D.C.. The new facilities, we were talking about those too, and those are so cool. So cool. And all the Under Armour connections, there's just so many advantages at Maryland. How would you not want to play there?"
Zingale, a two-star prospect from Nordonia High School, picked the Terps over offers from schools such as Illinois, Syracuse and Minnesota. Marshall and several MAC programs were also in the mix.
His pledge came less than two days after Jeffery Pooler of Dayton Chaminade-Julienne announced he was headed to Maryland, too. Pooler is a two-star defensive tackle prospect according to Scout.com.
Per Terrapin Times, Pooler picked Maryland over offers from Connecticut, Western Michigan, Air Force, Toledo and Ohio, among others.
"Guys like Dwayne and some other guys in their 2016 class, oh man, they're building something there, for real," Pooler told Terrapin Times. "They're trying to build something special with that 2016 class, and I want to be part of that."
