Marcus Allen Earns A Pair Of Honors

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

After a fantastic 22-tackle performance in Saturday’s thrilling overtime victory against Minnesota, Marcus Allen earned a pair of honors on Monday.

This past Saturday was arguably the best game of Marcus Allen‘s collegiate career. The junior safety was all over the field for the Nittany Lion defense and finished the game with 22 total tackles. He also recorded a huge tackle for a loss on a third down and two to stuff the Golden Gopher offense.

Allen’s 22 tackles were just two short of the single game school record of 24. This performance led to Marcus Allen being named one of Victory Bell Rings’ Players of the Game for Saturday’s victory. And on Monday this performance earned Allen two more, possibly more prestigious, honors.

The Big Ten Conference announced itsweekly awards on Monday afternoon. Allen was named the conference’s co-Defensive Player of the Week. Allen shared the honor with Northwestern defensive lineman Ifeadi Odenigbo.

This was not the only honor that Allen would earn on Monday. On Monday, Marcus Allen was also named the Big Ten Player of the Week by the Rose Bowl Game Committee.

Marcus Allen has become maybe Penn State’s most important defensive player. This is due to him being a leader on the field, as well as everything he is able to do. Allen can play in both coverage and run support. Which is a great trait for a safety to have.

Marcus Allen is one of my personal favorite Nittany Lion players. This is due to his both his play on the field and his leadership off of the field. While it is not for everyone, I also love the attitude and fun with which Allen plays. Because of this I am very happy for Marcus earning these honors. Furthermore, he definitely deserves them after this performance on Saturday.

Congrats marcus!
