LSU has hired Nebraska defensive backs coach Corey Raymond for the same job with the Tigers.

Coach Les Miles announced Tuesday that Raymond will replace Ron Cooper, who resigned last week to take an assistant's job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Raymond was at Nebraska for one year after coaching cornerbacks for two seasons at Utah State.

The 42-year-old Raymond was a defensive intern on Miles' staff in 2006 and an assistant strength coach in 2007-08.

Raymond was a three-year starter in the secondary for the Tigers from 1989-91 and played six seasons in the NFL.

He takes over a group of defensive backs that features three returning starters, including national defensive player of the year and Heisman Trophy finalist Tyrann Mathieu.
