Looking ahead at future Indiana opponents
With the addition last week of two games against Florida International, Indiana's future football schedules have come further into focus.
AllHoosiers.com runs down all of the known nonconference opponents so far scheduled between now and 2021 while pointing out the arrival of the nine-game Big Ten schedule in 2016 means teams will begin playing only three nonconference games on a yearly basis.
Head coach Kevin Wilson noted on the Big Ten spring football teleconference earlier this month that change will make scheduling a bit more of a challenge as programs seek to balance challenging games with ones that will allow a team to have a good chance to be eligible for a bowl, so how are things looking for the Hoosiers?
So far they have scheduled four games against foes from other Power 5 leagues over the next four years. That begins this fall with a trip to Wake Forest. The Hoosiers will host the Demon Deacons next season and then have a home-and-home with Virginia in 2017 and '18.
There are no Power 5 teams on the nonconference schedules in 2019-21 yet, but at least one slot remains open in each of those years.
