Life after Spurrier: What's next for South Carolina?

The expected retirement of Steve Spurrier couldn't have come at a worse time for South Carolina. Sitting at 2-4, the Gamecocks could potentially miss playing in a bowl game for the first time since 2007. 

The team in general hasn't been playing overly well. Injuries throughout the roster has ravaged any hopes of a SEC East Division crown, and the general feeling within the squad appears to be rooted in lethargy. 

At this point, what will the Gamecocks do? The absence of Spurrier could galvanize the team in a positive or negative way. 

In one sense, South Carolina could band together and finish the year strong in memory of its beloved coach. With Vanderbilt, Citadel, and Tennessee remaining on the schedule, the Gamecocks could make their final record somewhat respectable. 

On the other hand, the team could tank the rest of the way without its head coach. The contest this weekend at home versus Vanderbilt could be quite telling as to how the rest of the season will go for this proud program.
