Liberty schedule has rugged start, finish

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 6:27 p.m. ET

(STATS) - If Liberty University football finds success on the road next season, it is a candidate for a bounce-back season.

The Flames announced their 11-game 2016 schedule on Tuesday and it includes six home games. They finished 6-5 last year, but 5-0 at Williams Stadium.

Coach Turner Gill's squad will face a strong non-conference schedule, including FBS dates at Virginia Tech (Sept. 3) and SMU (Sept. 17).

The Flames will host Jacksonville (Sept. 10), 2015 FCS runner-up Jacksonville State (Sept. 24) and Robert Morris (Oct. 1) out of conference and Monmouth (Oct. 22), Gardner-Webb (Oct. 29) and defending champion Charleston Southern (Nov. 12) within the Big South Conference, where they are seven-time champions.

The Flames also will visit Kennesaw State (Oct. 15) and Presbyterian (Nov. 5) in conference play and former Big South member Coastal Carolina (Nov. 17), which will play as an FCS independent in its final season before rising to the FBS level.
