Lamont Wade Set To Announce On Saturday
Elite four-star cornerback Lamont Wade will announce his college decision on Saturday night, and Penn State is one of his five finalists.
For nearly three years one of the most popular names in the world of Penn State recruiting has been Lamont Wade. The Clairton, Pennsylvania, native is a four-star recruit and one of the best defensive prospects in the country. 247 Sports ranks Wade as the fifth best cornerback, and 50th best overall player, in the country in the 2017 recruiting cycle.
Wade is down to five finalists. Those five schools are Penn State, Pitt, Tennessee, UCLA, and West Virginia. And at 8 PM on Saturday night one of these five coaching staffs will be very happy.
By all accounts this is a two horse race between Penn State and West Virginia. Wade took an official visit to Penn State for their game against Iowa in November. He officially visited West Virginia earlier this month when they hosted Baylor.

For a long time Wade has appeared to be a Penn State lean. Dating back to last January he has visited Penn State more than every other school combined. Additionally, both he and his father have always spoke highly of the Nittany Lions.
It would appear that Lamont Wade is primed to commit to the Nittany Lions Saturday night. However, the Nittany Lion coaching staff will be on pins and needles the next 24+ hours. This is because this battle may not be over yet.
Early playing time is a big sticking point with Lamont Wade. Due to John Reid, Grant Haley, and Christian Campbell all returning he would not start as a true freshman at Penn State. However, if he goes to West Virginia he would start from the second he steps on campus.
Last night I spoke with a source that told me winning a championship in college is very important to Lamont. At Penn State he would have a legitimate chance at winning a National Championship, while this is not the case at West Virginia. Due to this, my source still expects Wade to pick Penn State tomorrow night.
I still believe Lamont Wade will commit to Penn State. That said, I am not as confident as I was a week or two ago. West Virginia is a real threat to Penn State. And a week or two ago it appeared they did not have any threats in the Lamont Wade recruiting battle.
Regardless of which school he chooses, Lamont Wade is set to enroll early. He will play in the Under Armor All-American Game on January 1. He will then begin his academic and athletic career at the college of his choice on January 9.
Hopefully, Lamont Wade chooses Penn State Saturday night. Ever since they were hired in January of 2014 this coaching staff has made him a priority recruit. When you combine this with the fantastic 2016 season Penn State has had if he does not choose the Nittany Lions, the coaching staff can not be faulted. They have done all they can and then some.
