Lambert making the transition to Georgia look easy
After setting the NCAA completion percentage record against South Carolina last week, it's hard to fathom Greyson Lambert has been on the Georgia roster for a couple of months. Lambert recently spoke to Dawg Nation about his quick transition to the Bulldogs after transferring in from Virginia.
“It’s not like these types of performances weren’t in me last year. It’s just a lot has to happen,” Lambert said. “Like coach Richt’s been saying, for the O-line to do their job the way they did it and kind of dominate the line of scrimmage. And for there not to be just a drop. A lot of stuff has to happen. It’s not like I did something spectacular. The whole offense did something spectacular that game, that doesn’t just really always happen. It was a full offensive effort to get that stat.”
From his comments, it's easy to see why the coaches felt Lambert had the necessary leadership qualities to lead a team posed to compete for a championship this season.
As for adjustments in his game, the most daunting task for Lambert was taking snaps from under center, as Virginia ran a shotgun based offense. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer also had Lambert throw using the power in his legs, something that had been lacking in Lambert's game.
As long as Lambert doesn't turn the ball over, the issue that haunted him most with the Cavaliers, it's hard to see him losing his job in Athens.
“I guess it just comes from experience and trust what I see,” Lambert said. “Being able to have that experience from last year has definitely helped me with situational football, knowing in this situation we’re at the 25-yard line, if it’s not there don’t try to force anything, at least get three points. You always wanna end in a kick, whether it be a punt, a field goal of an extra point.”
As long as the Bulldogs don't beat themselves, not many teams have the talent in place to challenge this Georgia team on the field. A backup ACC quarterback may have been just what Georgia needed to finally capture that elusive SEC Championship.
