Kansas hires former SMU and Houston assistant Jason Phillips to coach receivers

Published Dec. 21, 2015 11:12 a.m. ET

David Beaty has made a new coaching hire in an effort to strengthen the Kansas offense.

Jason Phillips, formerly of Houston and SMU, will be the Jayhawks' new receivers coach. Phillips has experience as a co-offensive coordinator with SMU.

Phillips has a long history of working with the Air Raid offense, which should be more prolific for Kansas once it improves its personnel.

Phillips will team with receivers coach Klint Kubiak to coach the Jayhawks’ pass catchers.

“Typically in the air raid offense there are two coaches working with wide receivers,” Beaty said in a statement announcing Phillips’ hiring. “With Jason joining our staff, he and Klint can join forces to provide us a great pair of coaches working with our players at those positions.”
