Jones names freshman Dormady the backup QB for Tennessee

Tennessee's head coach Butch Jones spoke with the media during Friday's media day event and the typically reserved coach actually gave away some information, as he officially named true freshman Quinten Dormady the backup quarterback to Joshua Dobbs. The news is not surprising, as Dormady has been with the team since January, while his main competitor Sheriron Jones arrived over the summer. 

Jones was asked if he planned to play the No. 2 quarterback at some point during the season in order to gain some much-needed experience under center. 

"Yes. You can never have enough quarterbacks. Both young quarterbacks have done a very, very good job, but Quinten Dormady is our No. 2 quarterback," Jones said. "It's amazing with him to see the progress that he made in spring ball and the confidence that he gained and really be able to grow on that. He's playing at a high level right now. He has to be ready to go and Sheriron has to be ready, he's two snaps away from being in the game."

If either backup has to play for Tennessee for any significant amount of time, the season could be derailed in a hurry. However give Jones credit for having a plan in place to get Dormady ready to go and add experience just in case he is forced into action.
