Hokies RB Marshawn Williams Out for the Season
Hokies RB Marshawn Williams ruled out for the season, according to coach Justin Fuente
Virginia Tech’s rushing offense has been a sticking point for much of the season, and it appears that may continue moving forward with one less playmaker in the fold.
Redshirt sophomore running back Marshawn Williams has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to another knee injury, according to head coach Justin Fuente. The severity of Williams’ injured knee is not yet known.

Williams burst onto the scene for the Hokies as a true freshman in 2014, rushing for 475 yards and four touchdowns in nine games prior to tearing his left ACL.
In 2015, Williams seemed to be making steady strides in his recovery, but then suffered a setback in his rehab which caused him to miss the entire season.
Finally, this season, Williams was once again fully healthy. Not only was he healthy, but he had begun receiving an increased workload at the running back position in a struggling rushing offense.
In what turned out to be his 2016 swan song on Saturday against Notre Dame, Williams carried the ball eight times for 28 yards.
He caps off his redshirt sophomore campaign with 59 carries for 244 yards and two touchdowns. With one regular season game remaining, Williams is third on the team in rushing behind quarterback Jerod Evans and running back Travon McMillian.

In Williams’ absence, it is expected that a combination of Sam Rogers, Steven Peoples, and Travon McMillian will be employed in the same fashion that it has all season long.
For Marshawn Williams though, all are hoping that the injury is not as serious as his torn left ACL in 2014, and that he can recover in time to be ready for the start of the 2017 season
