Hiring of RB coach Bentley already paying dividends
The hiring of Bobby Bentley to coach the running backs was one of the more interesting hires made by South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp.
Bentley had been the head coach of Presbyterian College for two seasons. Prior to that, he coached at famed in-state institution Byrnes High School for 22 years -- as an assistant coach, an offensive coordinator, a head coach, and as an athletic director.
As such, Bentley has a pulse on the high school scene in the state of South Carolina. This should only help when it comes to recruiting. In fact, Muschamp has already seen this move pay off.
The Gamecocks recently received a pledge from 2016 receiver Chavis Dawkins. As he told The State, Bentley was a big reason as to why he chose South Carolina.
"When Coach Bentley first got the job, he came to see me," said Dawkins. "He was the first to come see me. I call him and we talk a lot. It meant a lot to me because I knew [South Carolina was] really serious about me."
It will be fascinating to see how Bentley's immense knowledge of the area will impact recruiting even further in the future.
