A native of Asheville, North Carolina, Dowdle selected USC over Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, North Carolina State, and Tennessee.
As a senior at A.C. Reynolds High School, Dowdle rushed for 2,545 yards and 51 touchdowns. He also threw for 1,434 yards and 11 touchdowns. In total he accounted for 62 touchdowns and nearly 4,000 yards of total offense.
"Just really hearing that they can use me down there, and I'm a great fit for the offense and I'm a good running back they can use down there in Columbia," Dowdle told The State.
Originally a native of South Carolina, Dowdle's cousin -- Shaq Davidson -- is a current member of the team. At 6'1", 205 pounds, Dowdle joins C.J. Freeman as the second running back commitment in the South Carolina 2016 class.
