Coming into the 2015 season, Desmond King's progression was a big key to Iowa's defense being able to take the next step this season.

It's safe to say King took the next step this season. His eight interceptions through 12 games ties a school record. King is also fifth on the team with 61 tackles and 11 pass breakups.

Kirk Ferentz has praised his work ethic:

“He has become a better student of the game this year in the way he studies film and the way he prepares for games,’’ Ferentz said. “He’s benefited from his experience.’’

On Monday King was named the Tatum-Woodson Defensive Back of the Year in the Big Ten.

The Big Ten will name its offensive all-conference teams and individual awards Tuesday.
