Grambling State beats Virginia Lynchburg 72-12 in opener
GRAMBLING, La. (AP) DeVante Kincade and Trevon Cherry each threw a pair of touchdowns and Kincade ran for two more as Grambling State beat Division II Virginia University of Lynchburg 72-12 in a season opener for both teams on Saturday night.
Cherry had 140 yards passing and Kincade added 107 yards passing and 139 yards rushing for the Tigers.
Kincade scored first for Grambing on a keeper from eight yards to make it 7-0 with 11:47 to go in the first quarter. Martez Carter added an 87-yard kickoff return for a score and a 57-yard punt return for another touchdown to put Grambling up 28-6.
In the second quarter, Kincade ran for a 69-yard score to give the Tigers a 49-6 lead with 6:55 to go before the break. Grambling stretched it to 56-6 at halftime and never looked back.
Garrett Schrep threw for 209 yards and one touchdown on 18-of-36 passing for Virginia Lynchburg.
