Get used to hearing these two words: Style points
Two words college football fans across the nation will get sick of hearing, and perhaps at TCU they already are: Style points.
It's not enough to win, but if you want to get into the College Football Playoff, you better win with flair. You better blow out your opponent. You better not look a bit disheveled when the world is demanding perfection.
The No. 3 Horned Frogs have already heard the words "style points" more than they can probably bear after their 23-17 road win at Minnesota to open the season last week. They dropped from No. 2 to No. 3 in both polls because they weren't rip-roaring out of the gate, and there's already concern because they didn't win the game stylishly enough.
Well, on Saturday, TCU, even with a depleted defense, has a chance to light up the scoreboard against FCS opponent Stephen F. Austin.
Even so, to Patterson it's style, schmyle.
"Right now, with this football team, you’ve got to worry about every Saturday and winning it,” Patterson said during his weekly Tuesday press conference. “If you've watched me over the last 18 years, I’ve never worried about style points.”
He isn't going to start now.
