Georgia players expecting a tight game against South Carolina

Published Sep. 15, 2015 11:20 a.m. ET

Georgia heads into their second SEC contest of the season as a big favorite, the Bulldogs are currently a 17.5-point favorite, however the Bulldogs understand their division rivals plan to give them all they can handle this weekend.

“South Carolina, they always play us tough whether we’re over there or they’re at our place,” Georgia wide receiver Reggie Davis said to the Athens Banner Herald

Davis is right, as the Bulldogs have not beaten South Carolina by the current spread since 2006, in a 18-0 win in Columbia, and despite Georgia's status as big favorites, South Carolina has won four of the last five in the annual series.

Steve Spurrier clearly knows how to game plan for Georgia, as he has a career 16-6 record coaching against one of his most hated rivals. The Old Ball Coach doesn't sound too concerned coming into this one, despite his team falling at home to Kentucky last weekend.

“We’ll get ready to play our best against Georgia in Athens,” Spurrier said. “They look awfully strong as usual, but I think our guys will look forward to playing the game.”

Could this be the annual letdown game for the Bulldogs under Mark Richt? If so, expect the heat check to amp up early in Athens this season.
