Georgia focused on pushing the tempo on offense
Georgia's offense had nearly a flawless performance against South Carolina as the Bulldogs racked up 52 points, 576 total yards and their quarterback broke the NCAA completion percentage record. Not a bad day at the office.
However, offensive coordinator Brian Shottenheimer wasn't completely satisfied. There's one aspect of the gameplan the team's quarterback says the team is working to improve: Tempo.
“We’re trying to go at breakneck speed, as fast as we can,” Greyson Lambert said to 247Sports. “I guess as the knowledge progresses and we get a little more comfortable with the offense each and every week, the faster we can go and make our calls. Hopefully we’ll be going faster every week.”
So far so good, as the team is off to a 2-0 start in conference play and have essentially a bye week with Southern coming to Athens before Alabama rolls into town next weekend.
Considering Georgia is breaking in a new offensive coordinator and a transfer quarterback who arrived just before fall camp, how much quicker can the offense realistically get?
“Today Coach Richt even said at one point that we were eight minutes ahead of schedule,” Lambert said. “Which means we’re moving. We’re moving at a very fast pace and that’s what we want because it kind of puts the defense in a bind a little bit.”
