Georgia commit drafted by Braves; what's next move?
Terry Godwin, a five-star wide receiver and one of the top commits in Georgia's 2015 recruiting class, was drafted Wednesday in the 33rd round of the MLB First Year Player Draft by the Atlanta Braves. But while Godwin obviously has a potential future in baseball, it's likely that he'll still be on the football field in Athens this fall.
Godwin has already enrolled at Georgia and is taking part in summer workouts, and his mother told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that after he was drafted that it'd be a surprise if he were to give up football at this point.
"Basically, I think Terry’s happy, I think he’s settled," Olivia Godwin told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "We knew this day would come. We didn’t know if it would be Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, but we think Terry’s very happy where he’s at. I don’t think any amount of money at this point in time could take him away from there. He’s having fun and he’s kind of already adapted."
Godwin also has expressed interest in playing baseball at Georgia, something the coaches reportedly have told him is a possibility.
