FSU Football: Way Too Early Look at 2018 Recruiting Class

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 10:37 p.m. ET

FSU football just finished signing another top five recruiting class earlier this week – and as already gone back to work on getting top recruits for 2018.

As many college football fans know, there is no rest at all. From the second the final time ticks off the clock for one season, the work has already started on the following campaign. FSU football is no different – even after signing yet another amazing class of recruits during the 2017 National Signing Day this past Wednesday.

Even with the great work that was done for this year’s group, assistant coaches and head coach Jimbo Fisher have already gone back to work on getting the 2018 class to be just as talented. Already, six players have committed to the Seminoles – including one legacy who FSU hopes can be just as good as his record breaking brother.

Here’s a look at each of the 2018 commits – and who FSU football is targeting for the rest of the class.

James Cook – RB (Miami – Central)

If you have been living under a cave for much of the last year, this is the younger brother of maybe the greatest running back to ever play for the Seminoles – Dalvin Cook. The younger Cook, who helped lead the Rockets to the state title game as a freshman in 2015, is thought by some to be maybe even slightly better all-around than his older bro.

Cook was originally part of the 2019 class, but took the route that included a condensed schedule in high school to be reclassified as a member of this group. That means that 2017 will be the one year over this recent span where we don’t hear about a Cook scoring touchdowns for the ‘Noles.

Four Star Recruits

Isaiah Bolden – DB (Zephyrhills – Wesley Chapel)

A tall talent who will remind plenty of people of Derwin James – and may be the one who takes his place if James leaves following the 2017 campaign.

Justin Watkins – ATH (Ocala – North Marion)

A top 20 prospect from the state of Florida, Watkins is someone who can come in and contribute right away at the running back position as well as in the return game.

Robert Cooper – DT (Snellville, GA – South Gwinnett)

You can’t miss Cooper of you see him walking down the street – this 350 pound massive human being can clog holes and be a force that will scare offensive lineman once he gets to the college game.

Three Star Recruits

Charles Strong – RB (Lake Butler – Union County)

After playing his first two seasons in Gainesville at P.K. Yonge DRS, Strong transferred closer to home and continued to shine. One has to wonder with all the running back talent signed this year if he will stay and possible move to fullback full time.

Christian Meadows – DT (Montezuma, GA – Macon County)

A 6’3″, 330 pound beast who could join a growing list of talented and large people playing on the defensive line for the Seminoles. The longtime commit chose FSU over Florida – which shows he’s smart.
