FSU Football vs. Wake Forest: Halftime Recap

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Here’s a look back at the first half of action from FSU Football’s latest game as they take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

After arguably the best game of the season for the Seminoles in a come from behind, defense actually showing up win over the rival Miami Hurricanes, FSU football is back in the 850 this weekend for a homecoming showdown against the surprisingly 5-1 Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

Perhaps energized by their performance the week before, the defense forced a three and out on the first series and was able to get another punt on Wake’s second drive. FSU would get a big first play from Deondre Francois, nursing a sore shoulder, to Travis Rudolph – but would come up empty when Roberto Aguayo missed yet another field goal.

The ‘Noles would get the ball back when Marcus Lewis came up with the interception, and Aguayo would actually make his next attempt to give FSU a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter:

FSU would get the ball back on Tarvarus McFadden’s fifth interception of the season, but give it right back when Dalvin Cook fumbled a catch and Wake Forest recovered – a play that put a scare in fans of the ‘Noles when Cook stayed down and was attended to before slowly walking off the field:

Wake Forest tied the game at three on a field goal, while the FSU offense sputtered again – as wide receiver Bobo Wilson had to be helped on the sideline with an injury. The Seminoles would get bailed out when the Deacons bobbled the snap on a punt, giving FSU the ball with great field position:

The Seminoles would get the first touchdown of the game when Deondre Francois ran the bootleg from two yards out to give FSU football the 10-3 lead:

In the first 30 minutes of action, FSU football had 225 yards of total offense while holding Wake Forest to just 138 yards. The defense also came up with three turnovers, giving them 13 on the season (after having just 15 all of last year).
