FSU Football to Open, Close 2017 Season Against SEC Foes

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

FSU football now knows who they will open 2017 against and on what date they will play after the SEC revealed their schedules for next season Tuesday.

We’re just two weeks into the college football season for 2016, but one Power Five conference is wasting no time getting things going for 2017. On Tuesday, the SEC announced the football schedules with dates for next season – and it involves FSU football in the process.

The Seminoles got confirmation that they will open the season in Atlanta, taking on the Alabama Crimson Tide in a battle of two of the last three teams to win a national title since 2011:

The game between the ‘Noles and Crimson Tide will be the first since the 2007 season, when FSU beat Alabama 21-14 in Jacksonville (during Nick Saban’s first year coaching ‘Bama and Jimbo Fisher’s first year as FSU’s offensive coordinator). It will also be the first college game inside the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the city, currently being built as the new home of the Atlanta Falcons.

For the 37th time in the last 38 seasons, the Seminoles will end the regular season against their rivals from Gainesville, the Florida Gators:

The two teams have met on Thanksgiving weekend every year since 2005, a tradition that started from 1980 until 1996 before moving to the week before in 1997 and staying that way through 2004 (with the one exception being a return to the holiday weekend for the 2002 game).

The Seminoles know they will host ACC members Miami, Louisville, Syracuse and N.C. State next season, with road contests against Wake Forest, Clemson, Boston College and Duke. The remaining two games in the regular season will be announced at a later date.
