Florida State official, former All-American, Bonasorte dies
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) Monk Bonasorte, the former Florida State All-America defensive back who was the school's senior associate director of athletics, died Saturday night from brain cancer. He was 59.
Bonasorte's son, T.J., posted news of the death on Facebook on Sunday morning and it was confirmed by the university.
Bonasorte played from 1977-80 and finished with 15 interceptions, which is second in school history. He was a third-team selection to the Associated Press All-America team in 1979 and was inducted into FSU's Hall of Fame in 2005.
Bonasorte joined the athletic department in 2008 overseeing internal operations for football and women's soccer.
''Nobody cared more about Florida State University and its student-athletes than Monk. He dedicated his life to Florida State and was a pillar of strength for our football program during the last year,'' coach Jimbo Fisher said in a statement.
Bonasorte is survived by wife Beverly and sons, T.J. and Rocky.
