Former University of Oklahoma wide receiver Cameron Kenney was charged with theft and bank fraud after allegedly stealing a woman's purse and using her bank cards to buy alcohol.
According to the police report, the incident occurred Nov. 19 at the Magnolia's bar in Athens, Ga.
Police said Kenney stole the woman's purse from the chair next to her as his friend served as a lookout, The Oklahoma Daily reported Wednesday.
Kenney and the friend then met up with a third man and they used the stolen cards to buy drinks at the bar.
They left with the cards, as well as her driver's license, school ID, iPhone and car keys, but left the purse behind the bar, police said.
The trio then used the cards to buy more drinks at a nearby restaurant on the same night.
The woman called police, who were able find video evidence of Kenney stealing the purse.
Officers arrested Kenney at about 1 a.m. on Nov. 20, but not before he tried to run from them and tripped, hitting his head on a trash can and pole, Athens-Clarke County Police public information officer Hilda Sorrow said.
He was charged with one count of theft by taking, one count of obstructing a law enforcement officer, two counts of bank theft and two counts of bank fraud.
He posted bail later that day. A court date was yet to be set, according to the Athens-Clarke County court docket.
Kenney, 22, was a standout in OU's final three games last season. He caught six passes for 141 yards in a 47-41 win against Oklahoma State; picked up 65 yards as the Sooners overturned a 17-0 deficit to beat Nebraska for their seventh Big 12 Championship; and had 154 yards as OU ended its BCS losing streak with a 48-20 win over the Huskies in the Fiesta Bowl.
He had an unsuccessful stint with the San Diego Chargers practice squad earlier this year before returning to his native Dacula, Ga.
