Even with football's struggles, Texas paces Big 12 in Directors' Cup

Even though the Longhorns' football team finished below .500 in 2014, the overall health of Texas' athletic program is quite robust.

That point is evident in Texas recording a top-10 finish in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings to pace all Big 12 schools. Texas has registered three top-10 finishes in the last four years.

The Longhorns' charge was led by the NCAA title from the men’s swimming and diving team.

How did Texas finish compared to state rival Texas A&M, which, of course, now participates in the SEC? The Aggies finished 17th overall, snapping a five-year run in the top 10.

Baylor, spurred by its co-Big 12 champion football team, set a program-best by finishing 23rd. The Bears were third in the Big 12, behind Texas and Oklahoma (21). 

Now, if only Texas' football program can help the cause in 2015-16...
