East Carolina: Brown declared ineligible by NCAA this season
GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) The NCAA has ruled East Carolina receiver Trevon Brown ineligible to play this season.
The junior was the Pirates' projected starter at the ''Z'' outside receiving position after preseason camp. He sat out of the opener against Western Carolina, with the school saying it was to ''ensure he meets full eligibility standards.''
The school announced Brown's status in a release Wednesday and didn't specify exactly why Brown was ineligible. It said Brown would remain on the roster and be allowed to practice as long as he is enrolled at the school on a full-time basis.
Brown will have one season left. Senior Jimmy Williams is expected to start in Brown's spot for the second straight game when the Pirates host North Carolina State on Saturday.
