Jimmy Garoppolo's career-high 480 yards and seven touchdowns cemented Eastern Illinois' 57-24 victory over Illinois State Saturday night.
Garoppolo completed 26 of 41 passes for the Panthers (3-0), becoming EIU's career leader in pass completions. His career 763 completions surpassed Sean Payton's record of 756.
Erik Lora caught three TD passes and had 10 receptions, breaking an Ohio Valley Conference record for total receptions with 240 catches.
Amidst the record-breaking passing game, Shephard Little carved out 129 yards rushing, including a 73-yard TD run.
After trailing 44-10 at the half, Illinois State (0-2) replaced Jared Barnett with Blake Winkler, who finished with 144 yards passing and two TDs. Barnett was 7 of 18 for one TD and three interceptions.
Garoppolo was named the OVC and College Sporting News National Offensive Player of the Week after last week's 40-37 victory against Southern Illinois in double overtime.
