DL prospect decommits from McElwain and Florida

Published Dec. 17, 2015 11:51 a.m. ET

On Thursday, 2016 defensive end prospect Eric Mitchell announced on Twitter that he has decommitted from Jim McElwain and the Florida Gators football program.

The 6'1", 228-pound defensive end out of Miami Central High School originally opted for the Gators over offers from Rutgers, Louisville, Florida Atlantic, and Marshall.

An unranked prospect by Rivals.com, this may be a case of Mitchell looking for a better personal situation when it comes to early playing time.

Additionally, scholarships are becoming more and more precious for Florida. As National Signing Day draws closer, the flexibility with adding talent becomes truncated.

With Mitchell's decommitment, the Gators currently have 24 public pledges.
