An Alabama-Auburn relationship can be complicated enough. Throw Ole Miss into it and you have the recipe for a three-alarm, SEC fire.
Is there trouble in paradise between Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron and his girlfriend (but not yet fiance), Katherine Webb, who studied at Auburn? If there isn’t already — and one scandalous report is accurate — there might be soon.
According to Radar Online, McCarron and his giant Jesus chest tattoo spent the night with Maxim hometown hottie contestant Margaret Wood, who went to Ole Miss, in Tuscaloosa on Saturday. Meanwhile Webb, the former Miss Alabama who is most famous for being publicly ogled by Brent Musburger, nowhere to be found.
For those who have forgotten (or who have been in a cave for six months), here, again, is Mr. Musburger to remind you:
Per the Radar Online report, Wood and McCarron first met each other’s acquaintance on the sideline at an Alabama game during the fall, before McCarron met Webb in December.
The two then reportedly met up Saturday after Wood's connecting flight out of Tuscaloosa was canceled, first at a bar, and then at McCarron’s house.
"We were hanging out at his house, and I had been drinking, so he didn’t want me to drive," Wood told the site.
"I did not stay at a hotel. That’s all I can say. I’m trying to be careful about what I say because I feel really bad."
Wood then continued to not be careful at all about what she was saying and gave Radar more details about the night and her relationship with McCarron.
“It’s his business, and he should be able to do what he wants to do. He was texting me this morning about the story coming out, and I was like, ‘I don’t know what to tell Katherine,’ ” she said. “I don’t know her personally, but I would tell her, ‘I’ve known him longer than you. We’re just friends and it’s not a big deal.'
“If I need to tell Katherine, I will call her. The last thing I wanted was to cause any drama. This all makes me looks like some hooch and I’ve known AJ for a long time . ... AJ and I are just friends. People are blowing this out of proportion.
"One, I’m not a porn model. Two, it’s just stupid. Why do people care? He should be able to do what he wants to do with friends. I should be able to do what I want to do. I feel bad for him.”
Wood then, logically, ripped the tabloid for reporting what she told them.

Meanwhile, McCarron’s last tweet, on Monday, was about #truelove — but not in the way you gossip-mongers were probably hoping.

It’s unclear whether this drama might spell the end for the Heart of Dixie’s newest, hottest power couple, but I suspect that, if it is, Webb will be just fine.
While whatever happened was happening on over the weekend, Webb was busy in Los Angeles, where she presented an award at SpikeTV’s Guy’s Choice Awards. She also recently had a short-lived career as a diver on the TV competition show Splash and was featured in this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.
Radaronline had the plot thickening due to the quarterback's alleged reaction.
“AJ was calling and texting Margaret nonstop. He was totally freaking out about the story being out there. He told her it was going to mess up a lot of stuff,” the site reported Wednesday.
“He was really mad about her revealing that she stayed at his place," Radar's source continued. "He asked her why she didn’t just lie and say she stayed in a hotel. Why should Margaret lie for him?! The whole thing was no big deal.”
