Deacons Wolford tabbed a potential breakout star
Young quarterbacks seemingly sprouted up everywhere in the ACC last season, and Wake Forest's John Wolford was one of them. According to ESPN, only 12 true freshman Power 5 QBs started games last season, and five of those 12 passers called the ACC their home.
ESPN put Wolford under the microscope, examining his highs and lows of 2014, while taking a crack at predicting how his 2015 season will play out.
The entire 2014 season on a whole was a rough one for the Demon Deacons offense, but Wake Forest is hoping that the growing pains for Wolford will payoff down the road.
Last year, Wolford completed 58.3 percent of his passes for 2,037 yards and 12 TDs. The young QB did that under heavy fire as he was sacked 45 times.
According to ESPN, no QB in the country was sacked more often than Wolford, as he was wrapped up once every 10.9 dropbacks.
The Deacons are expecting better offensive line play in 2015, which should help lower the number of INTs thrown by Wolford, who was picked 12 times last year.
