Davidson fires head football coach Tripp Merritt

Davidson has fired head football coach Tripp Merritt following a disappointing season in which the Wildcats were 1-8 overall and 1-5 in the Pioneer Football League.
The school has announced Brett Hayford, will serve as the interim head coach until further notice. Hayford has been the associate head coach for the past eight years,
Merritt was in his eighth season at the helm of the Wildcats and compiled a 31-51 record overall during his tenure.
Hayford, a 1993 graduate of Davidson, has served on the coaching staff the past 20 years and is also the defensive line coach.
