Comparing Storied Programs: Ohio State and Nebraska
Ohio State and Nebraska are two storied programs going head to head with their seasons on the line.
It’s no secret that the Ohio State University and the University of Nebraska are two of the greatest football programs of all time. Although they have had just 4 meetings in their long history, there is still a lot of hype surrounding this game relating to history.
Both of these programs are Top 10 All-Time in the following categories: Wins, winning percentage, national titles, conference championships, bowl appearances, consensus All-Americans, Heisman winners, NFL draft picks, weeks in AP Poll, and weeks as AP #1.
Wow. I could keep going for a while longer, but I think you get the point. The Cornhuskers football program has existed for 117 seasons, and the Buckeyes program has been around for 105 seasons.
Although Nebraska has played for 12 more seasons than Ohio State, the Buckeyes have just 5 less wins than the Huskers. Between these two teams, they total 1,769 wins. I don’t know for sure – but that has to be some kind of record, right?
Since joining the Big Ten in 2011 – Nebraska has only played Ohio State once. The game was played in the Horseshoe, like this year, and the Buckeyes put a 63-spot up on Bo Pelini’s Cornhuskers.
More from Scarlet and Game
This was part of Urban Meyer’s first year as the head coach of Ohio State and the incredible 12-0 season. This season is much different. Here is 2016, both teams have lofty post-season expectations.
Both the Cornhuskers and the Buckeyes need this win to keep their Big Ten title hopes alive. And as of now – it doesn’t end there. Both of these teams are currently playoff contenders with just one month remaining in the College Football regular season.
With these two storied programs, and potential playoff hopes on the line – you never know what could happen. We know one thing is for sure, this game is going to be a good one.
Nebraska is in the Big Ten West, and Ohio State is in the Big Ten East… If everything falls into place – there could be a rematch of this one in December.
