Colt Brennan won't face drug charges

Prosecutors say they won't pursue drug possession charges against former University of Hawaii star quarterback Colt Brennan following his July arrest.

Prosecuting Attorney Keith Kaneshiro says in a statement that the decision was made based on a recent Hawaii Supreme Court opinion and other similar court decisions on drug possession and the intent to possess.

A plastic packet containing cocaine residue was found in Brennan's rented car after a police officer pulled him over for speeding in Kailua. Brennan was arrested for driving under the influence, and a police report said he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.17 percent.

Kaneshiro says prosecutors couldn't have proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the plastic packet belonged to Brennan.
