Winless Connecticut is changing quarterbacks for a third time this season.

Interim coach T.J. Weist announced Tuesday that redshirt freshman Casey Cochran will start on Saturday for UConn (0-8, 0-4 American) at SMU (3-5, 2-2).

Cochran takes over for freshman Tim Boyle, who started the last four games for the Huskies. Boyle replaced junior Chandler Whitmer.

Whitmer threw for 896 yards, with five touchdowns and six interceptions in his four games. Boyle threw for 619 yards, no touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Cochran has seen action in four games as a backup. He has thrown for 183 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Weist says he feels Cochran simply gives the team the best chance to win at this time. He says Whitmer and Boyle will compete for the backup job.
