Chizik: Savage set for leg surgery

Auburn safety Aairon Savage is set to have leg surgery.

Coach Gene Chizik says the sixth-year senior will have surgery on Monday and ''be out for a while'' for the fifth-ranked Tigers. He didn't specify the nature of Savage's injury or the time frame.

Savage had missed the past two seasons with a torn knee ligament and an Achilles' tendon tear. The NCAA granted him a sixth year of eligibility.

Chizik says Savage's injury was a tough blow given what the player has been through. Savage graduated in December 2008.

Savage was hurt on a key fourth-quarter play when fellow safety Zac Etheridge recovered a fumble Saturday against Arkansas.

Cornerback T'Sharvan Bell is day to day after a first-half leg injury.
