CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) Chattanooga has extended coach Russ Huesman's deal, keeping the two-time Southern Conference coach of the year under contract through 2018.

Athletic director David Blackburn said Thursday in a statement that success of the football program under Huesman has been tremendous with the coach also building a tradition of excellence in the classroom. Blackburn says he looks forward to working with Huesman for years to come.

Huesman led Chattanooga to its first Southern Conference title since 1984 and only the fifth in school history in 2013. The Mocs went 8-4 for their most wins since 1980, and Chattanooga also had the league's top scoring defense and total defense.

Attendance also has jumped since Huesman arrived in 2009.
