Charlie Strong: 'We will not be in the national championship game'
There's been more talk out of Austin, Texas, recently than Charlie Strong would probably like.
Over the weekend, linebacker Steve Edmond stirred things up by issuing some words for Baylor.
Edmond sat out of Texas' spring game, but he made time to criticize the Big 12 champs by saying 'Baylor sucks' and 'I still think they're trash.'
This time it was Strong himself making headlines -- although, to his credit, he didn't go after a league opponent -- when he delivered some realistic expectations to Longhorns fans on a bus tour by telling them that they can already count Texas out of contention for the 2014 national championship.
"We have everything available, and I don't know why we can't be successful," Strong told fans, according to the Austin American-Statesman. "There's no reason for us not to be. Now, I can't tell you how soon it's going to be. Don't hold me to that. Don't say, 'Ooh, coach said next year we'll be in the national ...' We will not be in the national championship game."
Those are odd words to say at an event that's supposed to increase excitement among fans, no?
Of course, Strong isn't telling fans anything they probably don't realize themselves. But did you have to say it so, well, bluntly, coach?
